Things Task Management is a nice App but it's a bit to expensive

Media_httpculturedcodecomstyles25imagesscreenshotthingsbig520jpg_zeukdichukuwags

I've been using Things from Culture Code for the last 15 days. I had/have been using 30boxes for managing my tasks, but needed something more. I'm still a huge 30boxes calendar fan, and feel that it's way superior to GCal. But, the tasks are a bit limited and I can't access it with my mobile. Anyway, so I finally downloaded Things, and did their 15 day trial. I think it's a great app, but it's lacking a web interface and it's a bit expensive. I had full intentions to purchase the Things license but after thinking about the price, I felt it was a bit much. I noticed that in the past, they had offered some discounts/coupon codes but I couldn't find anything current online. I decided to email Culture Code to see if they could offer me any kind of incentive. They sent a nice response, but had nothing to offer me. Oh well, I tried. So, now I've moved on and am trying out Todoist, which, at first glance is really nice. If someone has a Things coupon code for me, send it my way. Otherwise, I think I'll wait for them to lower their price and/or add a web version. Maybe todoist will win me over. What do you use to manage your tasks?

Waze turn-by-turn navigation based on live road conditions

Media_httpwwwwazecomblogwpcontentuploads200907contestfinaljpg_goavekylcumfoua

I've been using WAZE for the last couple of days. Love it. It's a free turn-by-turn navigation app for your mobile phone. It's even more than navigation, it's also a Social app that makes it fun to report traffic news where you live. It works on all the popular mobile devices (iPhone, android etc). You can get all the details here.

Postbox now charging for the 1.0 software

Media_httpwwwpostboxinccomimgpostboxiconpng_hoxafhbzyeaaefk

I've been using postbox since they released their first public version It's a great email app, built on top of Mozilla. Today I gave them money for their 1.0 version. If you use Postbox or want to try it. You can get $10 off by clicking on the coupon below.

If gmail would ever do imap for external accounts, I would need any other email client. Anyone know if this is in the works?

DEBTORS REVOLT BEGINS NOW!

Go get em! Both Bank of America and FIA tried to raise my rates, which I thought was pretty shitty. However, I called them and they lowered the rates back to where they were originally. They put up a fight, but I persisted and they complied, except that I can't use my cards again or they will raise the rates again. Credit Card companies do suck, but, we're the ones who used their money. Solution to the problem would be not to use credit cards.

ACL Artist Interview: Daniel Johnston

Our city’s beloved musical icon Daniel Johnston is having an eventful year. First up, he’s releasing his first album in six years, Is and Always Was, which he recorded with fellow Beatles fanatic Jason Falkner, a solo artist and former member of the power-poppy groups Jellyfish and The Grays. He’s also performing at ACL at the Austin Ventures stage on Friday, and we figured now would be a perfect time to talk to the man.

This interview was fraught with some communication problems right from the start. I had to ring up Daniel’s elderly father Bill to set up the interview, who seemed puzzled and a little disturbed by my phone calls. Bill informed me that Daniel was not at home when I called, but that I should call around 2 pm the next day, as his son likes to sleep in. Thinking I’d give him some time to collect himself, I called at 2:15, only to learn that Daniel had come in at 2 pm, grew frustrated with the wait, and left. Bill told me to call back at 3 pm, and I was sure to be prompt about it.

Daniel was pretty quiet on the phone, and it was a bit of a struggle to get him to open up. It was also, to be completely honest, nerve-racking speaking to the man behind the legendary Hi, How Are You and so many other great records. Still, we made some good headway talking about his new album and playing live.

HOW TO: Set Up a Winning Facebook Fan Page

Facebook Pages are different than profiles. You have a profile for you, Jane Doe, but your business can’t have a profile — it can have a Page. A Page is a place to house all the pertinent information about your company. They’re so useful because you can include everything that relates to your business in one place with a built-in potential audience:

- Overview of company
- Website and contact info
- Press releases
- Videos
- Blog RSS
- Twitter (Twitter) updates
- Company news and status
- Customer interaction

One of the major benefits of a Page on Facebook over (or in addition to) a webpage is that it’s so simple to update. With a website, if you’re not technical, you have to contact your web developer, who will then charge you to make even a tiny change. With Facebook, updates are as easy as logging in and typing or uploading. The fresher your content, the more you will engage people.

Susan Payton did a nice write up on setting up a Facebook Fan page for your company. I think every company should have a Facebook Fan page. Twitter is not necessary for everyone, but Facebook is.
